There have been hundreds of sports video games for years. In less than forty years, we've gone from Pong to MLB 2K6 for Xbox 360. But evolution does not always play has meant better games. Just because a game has better interfaces and flashy graphics do not necessarily play well. Therefore, the PS2 and Xbox games are doomed to remain in containers in the discount on your local game store, while classics like NHL 94 and Tecmo Super Bowl continued to be pursued by sports fans. Here are my top 10 of all time:
10. Jordan vs. Bird (NES) - was the head like a big game? No, not really. But the game has been innovative with the three point competition and slam dunk contest long before it was shown elsewhere. For that reason alone deserves a place in the Top 10.
9. Madden 2005 (PS2, Xbox, GC) - The jump from '04 to '05 was huge. In '05 Hit-made manga and defensive player to control the defensive equal with the offense. Franchise mode is almost the same as '04, but this is not necessarily a bad thing. What I like to do is build a team from scratch. I love taking the worst team in the league and build a power plant. You can move to a new city and build a new stadium, then draft players from college NCAA '05 real. Overall, I liked this game more than any other Madden. 2006 has not improved enough in this game.
8. Punch-Out (NES) - What child born in the 70's or early 80 not spent hours and hours trying to beat Tyson Little Mac?
7. Madden '94 (Genesis, SNES) - Based on the memory of this game was impressive. I remember playing with all NFL teams and a bunch of classic teams. He was one of my favorite games sports growth. That said, I played recently and it sucks. He can not even approach the celebration of their own against Tecmo Super Bowl. Adoption is not realistic, and the operation was repeatedly hit in the SPIN button while lining bounce your RIDER. It is this high only because I remember how to appreciate as a child.
6. NBA Live '95 (Genesis, SNES) - This game could not have been realistic at all, but it was incredibly fun to go up and down the court to turn three and develop alley-oops. That was the first NBA game from EA with every team and every scenario also scores points. Not to mention, was the first game with the camera of 3 / 4 ANGLE.
5. NFL Blitz (Arcade) - The football version of NBA Jam. Shortcuts score later, and crazy rules like being able to run multiple forward passes behind the line of scrimmage for this great game. The arcade version was waaaay better than the PS or N64 versions.
4. NBA Jam (Arcade) - Between the arcade version and the console version, I played a ton NBA Jam. It is one of the most original games ever. Who does not enjoy beating the crap out of passengers by air or by hitting three after three years, when the fire? This game totally rocked. The best part was getting that all codes and playing with pets and Bill Clinton.
3. Little League Baseball (NES) - I do not know why this game gets more attention as one of the best sports games NES. The gameplay is the best of any NES baseball game - throwing, hitting, and Fielding feel relatively simple and realistic. Besides just something fun and unique to play Little League. As far as I know it's the only league game of baseball ever, but I could be wrong. Adding to the excitement, some teams are much better than others. Want a challenge? Try to win a tournament with Italy, the worst team in the game. The replay value of the Degree Law is incredible, I still play today.
2. NHL 94 (Genesis, SNES) - I love modern games in the NHL since the boy next door but this game is better than ever. I still play all the time. The quality of play is incredible. Remove the wrap around a soft target and the game is incredibly real, especially considering how old this game is. Oh, and for the record, playing NHL 93 in Swingers, but talk of the abolition of the fighting in NHL 94. Odd Huh?
1. Tecmo Super Bowl (NES) - This game was way ahead of It's Time - editable plays and statistics throughout the season were followed so cool at the time. The gameplay is far from realistic, but, surprisingly, even. For this reason, the game is still very popular and there are many people still playing in online leagues. The advent of emulators has allowed to edit files - versions of the game I played lists as recently as 2004. There versions also lists college and USFL records. The game little strange quirks like Bo Jackson unstoppable balls bouncing around the place, the choice of defensive plays guess the offensive play, go 100 meters, etc make the game more fun. This game never, never old.
